Gori Wins Again: Karasu Storms Japan Cup

The Summit 40 Karasu has won Japan's major inshore regatta, the Japan Cup. Interrupted by Typhoon Roke which brought a maximum speed of 130 miles per hour, Karasu returned strongly to win the event with less than half the points of the second place finisher, including a win in the offshore race. Project managed through her build by Bob Wylie, Karasu has been perhaps the most successful IRC design in Japan since her arrival.

Gori Wins Again

The Barcelona World Race is one of the best regarded two handed ocean racing events in the world. Staged for only the second time in 2010/2011, the event is a huge media event in Europe with the 60 foot boats and 14 teams commanding media attention more commensurate with a F1 car racing team than ocean yachtsman. Virbac-Paprec finished first and was fitted with Gori racing propellers, as were the majority of the IMOCA OPN 60 fleet.

Autoprop Goes Electric

The designers and engineers who produced the first Autoprops over twenty years ago could have had little idea that their brilliant invention would today be considered the ideal propeller to make the best use of the 21st century’s new power source for boats; electricity… and Autoprops unique properties make them as
attractive to electrically driven motor boats as they are to sailing yachts.

Autoprop to Spitsbergen

The Autoprop provides very significant improvements whether sailing, motor sailing or just motoring.

A typical example is this Seastream 43, a well found and highly regarded cruising yacht whose owner, Alistair Stenhouse, found the performance of his boat was considerably improved with an Autoprop.

He tells us, “My original prop was a 3 blade fixed and I changed it to permit more efficient sailing on the trip I planned from Scotland to Spitsbergen and back via Norway; a trip which included successfully reaching 80 degrees north.

Virbac Pabrec 3 wins Barcelona World Race; equipped with Gori Racing Propeller

Congratulations to Virbac Pabrec 3 on winning the 2010/2011 Barcelona World Race.
On the morning of April 4th she crossed the finish line to take line honors in this long distance endurance race.

Virbrac Pabrec 3 along with many others in this race were equipped with Gori Racing Propellers ... why? ... because of their extremely low drag properties ... their unequalled reliability and consistent excellent performance.

AB Marine is proud to have been the supplier of the fixed propeller and shafting for this new and innovative recessed installation. So as to keep drag to a minimum the propeller and shaft installation is retracted inside the hull when racing. You can't get any lower drag than that. Even though AB Marine is well known as the distributor for Gori folding propellers, it was determined that even these low drag propellers would not be the ideal installation.

Across the Atlantic with an Autoprop

Autoprop has been around since the early 1990’s and it is true to say that the vast majority have been fitted to sailing yachts but, there are excellent reasons for more to be fitted to displacement motor boats as well.

Consider the case of this pretty little French trawler style yacht whose owner is preparing to take her across the Atlantic, as one contestant in a fleet of identical yachts, to see who can get there using the least fuel.
